GIVE DRY SKIN THE COLD SHOULDER: HOW TO PREVENT DRY SKIN IN WINTER

As Winter approaches, there are so many things to look forward to. Bringing out your winter wardrobe, curling up with a book by the fire, and planning your skiing trip.

But there is one thing about Winter that no one likes - dry skin.

Low humidity, dry heat from indoor air conditioning, cold air and harsh winds all contribute to drying out your skin.

These conditions are inevitable, but we’re going to fill you in on the steps you can take to keep your glow this Winter.

  1. Moisturiser is key

It’s no secret that moisturiser is important in preventing dry, flaky skin. A rich moisturiser is recommended during Winter in order to supplement your skin with the additional moisture it is lacking. For example, our RP Moisturiser has many moisture retention benefits that help to reduce dryness and irritation, whilst also soothing the skin and giving you a radiant glow.

It is also important to moisturise right after you wash your face. When you wash your face, you remove the natural oils that work to lock in moisture, so you need to supplement them. This also applies to other areas of the skin like your hands and legs!

  1. Use gentle products

When your skin is feeling particularly dry and irritated, the last thing you want is to use a harsh cleanser or exfoliant. Your skin does not need this added irritation, and it can actually make your symptoms worse.

Instead, you should opt for a gentle cleanser, and a mild chemical exfoliant (not a scrub). Our Carbo Cleanser gives you double the benefits - it’s a gentle cleanser that uses activated charcoal to remove any impurities from your skin leaving it supple and smooth, whilst also gently exfoliating through organic fruit extracts.

  1. SPF is non-negotiable

Harmful UV radiation stresses your skin’s moisture barrier which is vital for maintaining hydration. Not wearing adequate sunscreen in Winter makes your skin more vulnerable to drying, and we shouldn’t have to worry about that too.

Luckily, our RP Moisturiser is also formulated to reflect harmful radiation from the sun, protecting your skin. Our REM Serum also has solar repair properties that help to repair the effects of solar radiation (along with MANY other benefits)

  1. Monitor your diet

A lot of the time we forget about how our diet affects our skin, and during the colder months it is crucial we are doing all that we can to help keep our skin hydrated.

Yep. you saw this one coming - drink. more. water. We know you hear this all the time, but it’s so important. If you are dehydrated, your skin likely will be too.

Gut health and skin health are also related, so adding more healthy fats to your diet may help your dry skin. For example, eating walnuts, avocado and using olive oil in your cooking are good ways to incorporate healthy fats to give your skin that extra boost of radiance.

This being said, diuretics such as alcohol, coffee, and other caffeinated beverages, cause dehydration as they stimulate your bladder but do not provide the hydrating benefits of water that your body needs.

  1. Humidifier

Another tip for Winter is to use a humidifier at home! Humidifiers maximise the moisture of the air around you, helping your skin’s barrier to stay hydrated. In addition to this, try and keep the temperature of your indoor heating at a moderate temperature to avoid additional dryness.
